About this lesson

Apostrophes and hyphens sit inside words, so they interrupt your rhythm more than marks that come at the end of a sentence.

From here on, lessons are defined by the character rather than by key position, because punctuation lives in different places on different layouts. Scoring uses the character you produce, whichever key it took. That is why your own layout never puts you at a disadvantage.

Hand position

  • Find each mark on your own keyboard before you start; its position depends on your layout.
  • Reach for it with the nearest finger and return to the home row straight away.
  • Keep the word flowing through the mark instead of stopping before it.

This lesson is defined by its characters rather than by key position, so it is the same on every keyboard layout. It takes about 3 minutes: six short lines, passed at 92% accuracy. Speed is not part of the pass mark.
