Typing tiers explained
whytyping has five tiers, from Bronze to Diamond. A test earns a tier only when it meets both that tier's minimum speed and its minimum accuracy.

A tier is a personal milestone that says how fast and how cleanly you can type in a single test. There are five. Each one sets two minimums, and a run has to clear both of them to count.
The five tiers
| Tier | Minimum speed | Minimum accuracy |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 25 wpm | 90% |
| Silver | 40 wpm | 92% |
| Gold | 60 wpm | 95% |
| Platinum | 90 wpm | 96% |
| Diamond | 120 wpm | 97% |
Why two minimums
Speed on its own is easy to fake by ignoring mistakes. Text full of errors has to be fixed before it is any use, so it is not fast in practice. Pairing each speed with an accuracy minimum means a tier describes typing you could actually rely on. The accuracy bar also rises with the tier, because the faster you go, the more a small error rate adds up.
How a run earns a tier
When a standard test ends, whytyping takes its net speed and its accuracy and finds the highest tier where both minimums are met. A run at 65 wpm and 93% accuracy earns Silver, not Gold: the speed is there, the accuracy is not yet.
Your result screen shows the tier and a “Next” line. That line always names the speed target for the next tier, and it adds the accuracy target only when you are below it, for example “Next: Platinum · 90 wpm at 96%”.
Tiers are personal milestones
Tiers are not rankings. They do not compare you with anyone else, and there is no leaderboard behind them. Each one marks a point on your own path, alongside your personal bests and your streak. When you reach a new tier it is recorded as a milestone on your progress chart, and that is a good moment to export a backup.
What does not count
- A run under 50% accuracy is shown but earns no tier and sets no personal best.
- A run faster than 350 wpm raw is treated the same way.
- Smart drills and the Daily Challenge do not earn tiers.
Reaching the next one
If the “Next” line shows an accuracy target, work on that first: read how to improve typing accuracy. If it shows only a speed, your accuracy is already good enough and the gap is pace. Questions
Can I lose a tier once I have earned it?
No. A tier is a milestone you reached. A slower run later does not take it away.
Do drills or the Daily Challenge earn tiers?
No. Tiers come from standard tests only, because drills and Daily texts differ from the standard ones.
Why did a fast run not earn a tier?
Its accuracy was below the tier's minimum. Runs under 50% accuracy, or faster than 350 wpm raw, are shown but earn nothing.
