About this lesson

Numbers are the longest reach on the keyboard, two rows up from the home position. Most people look down for them, which is the habit this level replaces.

This lesson covers the digits one to five, mixed with ordinary words so that your hands practise leaving the home row and finding it again. Expect to be slow at first; that is normal for this row.

Hand position

  • The number row sits above the top row; reach up with the same finger that types the key below.
  • On layouts where digits need Shift, hold it with the opposite hand.
  • Return to the home row after every number, however short.

This lesson is defined by its characters rather than by key position, so it is the same on every keyboard layout. It takes about 3 minutes: six short lines, passed at 92% accuracy. Speed is not part of the pass mark.
