Top row: ring fingers (W and O)
Ring fingers reach up one row.
Lessons work best with a physical keyboard. The full finger guide appears on tablets and wider.
About this lesson
Ring fingers reach less easily than the others, so this lesson is about control. The movement is the same as for the middle fingers, only with a finger that prefers not to move alone.
Expect your speed to dip while accuracy settles. That trade is the right one: speed built on wrong reaches has to be unlearned later. It is fine to pass this lesson slowly and return to it later.
Hand position
- Each ring finger moves straight up from its home key.
- Let the little finger lift with it if that is more comfortable.
- Return to the home row before the next key.
On a US (QWERTY) keyboard this lesson's keys are W and O. Lessons follow key positions, so on another layout the same fingers practise the keys that sit in the same places. It takes about 3 minutes: six short lines, passed at 92% accuracy. Speed is not part of the pass mark.
