Lessons work best with a physical keyboard. The full finger guide appears on tablets and wider.

About this lesson

These two keys are the furthest your index fingers travel on the letter rows. They are a frequent source of errors because the reach is diagonal and easy to overshoot.

Take the lines slowly and notice which of the two you miss more. Your result screen maps mistakes key by key, so a weak reach shows up clearly. Repeat the lesson once or twice if the pass mark feels close.

Hand position

  • The centre keys of the top row are typed by the index fingers.
  • Reach up and inwards in one diagonal movement.
  • This is one of the longest reaches, so let the hand open slightly instead of twisting the wrist.

On a US (QWERTY) keyboard this lesson's keys are T and Y. Lessons follow key positions, so on another layout the same fingers practise the keys that sit in the same places. It takes about 3 minutes: six short lines, passed at 92% accuracy. Speed is not part of the pass mark.
