About this lesson

Two rows give you most of the letters used in everyday writing, so these lines read like real language on nearly every layout.

This is a good lesson to repeat. Come back to it whenever your accuracy slips, and try to hold a steady rhythm rather than sprinting through the short words and stalling on the long ones. Even pacing is what later turns into speed.

Hand position

  • Type each word as one movement rather than letter by letter.
  • Keep your eyes on the text, a word ahead of your fingers.
  • If you make a mistake, fix it with Backspace and carry on at the same pace.

This lesson is defined by its characters rather than by key position, so it is the same on every keyboard layout. It takes about 4 minutes: six short lines, passed at 92% accuracy. Speed is not part of the pass mark.
