About this lesson
The middle fingers are the strongest after the index fingers, so their home keys are a gentle second step. You now have four keys under four fingers, and none of them needs any reach.
Watch for a common slip here: pressing with the index finger because it feels more familiar. Give each key to its own finger, even if that feels slower today.
Hand position
- Keep the index fingers on their bumps and add the keys directly beside them, towards the outside.
- Move only the finger that is typing; the others stay resting on their keys.
- Keep your wrists level and off the desk if you can.
On a US (QWERTY) keyboard this lesson's keys are D and K. Lessons follow key positions, so on another layout the same fingers practise the keys that sit in the same places. It takes about 3 minutes: six short lines, passed at 92% accuracy. Speed is not part of the pass mark.
