Lessons work best with a physical keyboard. The full finger guide appears on tablets and wider.
About this lesson
Ring fingers do not move very independently, which is why these keys often feel clumsy at first. That is normal, it happens to nearly everyone, and it passes with a few short sessions.
With this lesson six of the eight home keys are in place. Short real words start to appear in the practice lines as soon as your layout allows them.
Hand position
- The ring fingers sit one key further out from the middle fingers.
- They are weaker and slower, so press deliberately and do not rush.
- If a ring finger lifts its neighbour off the row, slow down until it moves alone.
On a US (QWERTY) keyboard this lesson's keys are S and L. Lessons follow key positions, so on another layout the same fingers practise the keys that sit in the same places. It takes about 3 minutes: six short lines, passed at 92% accuracy. Speed is not part of the pass mark.
