Low pressure by design
Some days you want a number without a fight. This test keeps everything simple: half a minute on the clock and a stream of words no longer than four letters. You will not meet an unusual spelling or a stretch to the far corners of the keyboard.
Start typing whenever you like. The countdown begins on your first key.
Who it is for
The easy test suits a few different people.
Returning typists who have not practised in a while can use it to get moving again without a discouraging first result. Anyone trying a new keyboard can check that the keys feel right before judging themselves on harder text. And if you have just finished a lesson, short words are a comfortable way to apply what you learned.
It is also a pleasant way to end a session. Finishing on a clean, quick run is good for motivation.
How to read an easy score
Because the words are short, your speed here will tend to be higher than on a standard test. That is not cheating; it is simply a different measurement. Each preset keeps its own personal best, so your easy-test best sits apart from the others and never inflates them.
For context on what different speeds mean, see what is a good WPM.
Pay attention to accuracy. With simple words there are fewer excuses for errors, so this is a good place to practise typing cleanly. Every keystroke counts toward accuracy, including the ones you fix. If the number is high here but drops on harder text, the trouble is with specific letters or symbols, and the keyboard map under your result will point to them.
From easy to everything else
Think of this page as the first step on a ladder:
- Easy words for thirty seconds, here.
- The same easy words for a full minute, on the typing practice for beginners page.
- Common words of any length on the standard tests.
- Punctuation and numbers, when you want a challenge, on the hard typing test.
Move up when a step feels comfortable, and come back down whenever you want a breather.
Your progress stays with you
Results are saved in this browser, with no account needed. A thirty-second run counts as a streak day, so even the easiest test on the site keeps your streak alive.
