A sprint, not a commute

Thirty seconds is about as long as most people can type flat out without their hands tensing up. That makes this test a measure of your ceiling: the speed your fingers can reach when nothing has had time to go wrong.

The text is common lowercase words. The timer waits for your first key, counts down from thirty, and the result appears the instant it reaches zero.

When a short test is the right tool

Use this page when you want a quick reading and have no time for more. It suits a few specific moments:

  • Before a longer session, to see how awake your hands are.
  • After a drill, to check whether the letters you practised feel smoother.
  • Between tasks, when a full minute feels like too much of an interruption.

Because the run is short, you can take several in a row and look at the spread. If three attempts land close together, that is your real burst speed. If they are far apart, your rhythm is the thing to work on, and the guide on how to type faster covers that.

What the number hides

A short run has a known weakness. A single stumble, one word that goes wrong and needs three corrections, can pull the result down sharply, because there is so little time to recover. The opposite is also true: a lucky string of easy words can lift it.

So treat one 30-second score as a snapshot. For a steadier figure, follow it with the 1-minute typing test and see how much of your sprint speed survives. A small gap between the two means your pace is sustainable. A large gap means you are starting faster than you can hold.

Accuracy still matters here

It is tempting to mash the keys for thirty seconds and hope. The result screen will not reward that. Accuracy counts every keystroke, including the ones you went back and fixed, and a run under 50% accuracy is shown but not counted toward your bests or your tier.

The heatmap under your score still marks the keys that cost you most.

Make it a habit

Half a minute is easy to repeat daily. Your best per preset is saved in this browser, and the Stats page shows how your 30-second best compares with your longer ones. No account is needed for any of it.

Questions

Does a 30-second run count toward my streak?

Yes. Any test or drill of at least 30 seconds counts as a streak day, so this is the shortest test that keeps a streak going.

Is a 30-second score a fair measure of typing speed?

It is a fair measure of your burst speed. For the pace you can hold through real work, compare it with a one- or two-minute result.
