How sudden death works

Sudden death is a typing game with no second chances. Common words scroll past exactly as they do in the typing test, and you keep typing for as long as you like, but the first wrong key ends the run on the spot. Backspace does nothing, so there is no quietly fixing a slip. Your score is the number of words you completed before the mistake.

There is no clock to beat. Going slowly is allowed, and often wise: the run only rewards keys that land right first time. That makes sudden death the purest accuracy drill on the site. A long run says your fingers know where they are going; a short one usually points at one or two keys that are not settled yet.

Learning from the mistake

When a run ends, the result shows the word you were on, the key you pressed and the key the text wanted, so you can see exactly what went wrong. Swapped neighbours such as o and i, or a letter typed by the wrong hand, are the usual culprits. One tap sends those two keys to a 60-second drill of real words that contain them, which is the quickest way to turn the slip into practice.

Records

Your best number of words is kept in this browser and shown on the games page. A run of 30 seconds or more counts toward your daily streak; it never changes the personal bests from typing tests. If one mistake keeps ending your runs early, the guide on how to improve typing accuracy explains what to slow down for.
