A typing relay for a group
Team relay turns typing into a group game on a single computer, phone or tablet. Split into two teams, put in everyone's names, and take turns: one player from the first team types a sentence, then one from the second team types the same sentence, and so on through five sentences. Each player's clock starts on their first key and stops when they finish, and the times add up into a team total.
It works for a team at work, a family after dinner or friends at a club night, and it is gentle on beginners: nobody has to type for long, everyone gets a turn, and a slower player can be balanced by a quicker teammate. Teams can be different sizes; players simply take turns until the five sentences are done.
Fair scoring
Both teams type exactly the same sentences in the same order, taken from the same phrase bank as the sentence typing test, so the only difference is the typing. The clock measures how long each player took, not their words per minute, which makes short and long sentences count fairly. Rushing does not pay: a sentence typed under 80% accuracy adds five seconds to the team's time.
The scoreboard shows every player's leg as it happens and who is up next. At the end, the table lists each sentence with both teams' times and any penalties, and a rematch keeps the same teams with fresh sentences.
Privacy and records
Team and player names stay on this device and are forgotten after the game. The fastest winning total is kept as your best on the games page, and a relay counts toward your daily streak, but it never changes the personal bests you set on typing tests.
